Do Nam-Yong

Abstract
The author has recently experienced a case of two salivary stones in the submandibular gland on the right side.
A 35 year old man visited the department of Otolaryngology Chosun University, on 4 August 1988 with complaints of walnut sized,"tender swelling on the right submandibular region and mastication difficulty.
These symptoms have been graudally developed and aggrevated for past 2 years. Physical examination was not revealed fistula or inflammation on the posterior portion of the right side mouth floor.
Plain A-P and right lateral mandibular X-ray views and sialography revealed a large, oval shaped radio-opaque density on the right submandibular region. Through an external approach under the general anesthesia, extirpation of the gland with stone removal was done. The removed two stones were contact with each other. Two stones were 1.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm. and 1 x 1 x 1 cm. in each size, 4.0 gm in weight, grayish-white in color, and the chemical composition of the stones were principally calcium phosphate. The extirpated gland was 3 x 2 x 2 cm in size and revealed chronic sialoadenitis on biopsy.
